Well, well. We made it through another year. From the depths of our subterranean compound, we at Bobby Joe Ebola and the Children MacNuggits would like to wish you a happy New Year! Any way you slice it, 2013 was a big year for us, full of firsts and gigantic leaps forward. We toured like maniacs for the first half of the year, culminating with our first headlining gig at Great American Music Hall. The strain nearly broke us, but we were able to switch gears and put out two books in the Fall with Horrible Comics and Microcosm Publishing- The Bobby Joe Ebola Songbook and Meal Deal With The Devil – and laid the groundwork for a 2014 full of weird-tastic fun and shenanigans. We were even able to end 2013 on a crazy high note; we had the honor of sharing a Gilman bill with the legendary BLATZ, who reunited to help allay medical costs for an old pal, Mike Montano of FILTH.

If you haven’t seen our merch table recently, you’ll be pleased to note we have a couple of new additions: Our long-awaited split 7” with Asheville weirdos Kreamy ‘Lectric Santa is out on Mayfield’s All Killer No Filler, as is a new 4-song Bobby Joe Ebola 7″ out now on Jukebox Records! Jukebox Records is a totally cool, subscription based monthly 7″ deal… with the emphasis on cultivating more love for jukeboxes! This one features two originals and two cover tunes including the unreleased BJE tune TASHIROJIMA and our unreleased cover of PHIL OCHS’ DRAFT DODGER RAG!

Of course, there’s more on the way. You may recall a while back we recorded a live album at Different Fur Studios in SF. Well, that release is coming along, and should be out on Rooftop Comedy Productions sometime in March. We’ll keep you posted on that one! We’re also currently in different stages of production on  7 new music videos. Some will be for songs on Trainwreck to Narnia, and others from our 2010 album F, finally completing our quest to make a video for each song on that album. A DVD will follow once we’ve compiled these videos, but again, we’ll be sure to give you plenty of warning. In addition, we will soon be going into the studio to record a mini-opera written to accompany a special edition of Taking the Lane, a Portland-based bicycle-friendly ‘zine published by our friends at Taking The Lane Media.

Meanwhile, Corbett is also hard at work on a feature-length documentary about the early years of the East Bay punk scene, which spawned Green Day as well as dozens of other shockingly good bands.

That sort of breakneck schedule doesn’t leave a whole lot of time for shows and touring, so our live appearances will be somewhat limited for the next little while. Still, our Bay Area friends can catch us Jan 17 on the Displayed Labors radio show (4-6 pm on 104.1 FM in the East Bay; the livestream can be found at www.berkeleyliberationradio.net), and Jan. 19 at Thee Parkside in San Francisco, where we’ll be playing with The Haymarket Squares and The Crux! (Event link for Thee Parkside show here: https://www.facebook.com/events/390020534433997/ ).

Then, Jan. 25, we’ll be kicking off another benefit for Mike Montano, this time at Toot’s Tavern in Crockett. This show will feature FIFTEEN (yep, that Fifteen), Civil War Rust, Mystic Knights of the Cobra, Guantanamo Dogpile, The Hunky Newcomers (from Lansing, MI), City Mouse (From San Diego, CA), and Freedom Club! (Facebook event for that here: https://www.facebook.com/events/262973140521221/ )

If you’ve been following our exploits for a while, you know that crazy stuff happens with us, sometimes with very little notice. We encourage you to check our “SHOWS” page first thing every single morning, to see what we’ve gotten into next: http://bobbyjoeebola.com/?page_id=13

Until next time, keep each other warm by any means necessary, and don’t waste a second making 2014 your year.

Toodles,

Dan & Corbett
