Hell yeah! The MacNuggits will be sharing the stage with Kyle Gass of Tenacious D, as he brings his band to The New Parish in Oakland, Tuesday, November 8th! Don’t miss this historic event for musical satire… or at least for our band!

We can’t count the number of times in our 15 year existence we have been compared to these rock heavyweights and now we finally have the opportunity to rock with one of ‘em! Oakland! Please come out and show your MacNuggit pride for this one! We would love to have some singing heads with us!

INDIEGOGO “LIFE IS EXCELLENT” MUSIC VIDEO FUNDING UPDATE!

Here is a sneak peek at one of the many awesome prizes we’re offering up as thanks for supporting our Life is Excellent” music video campaign! Check out this exclusive & way-cool “Life is Excellent” t-shirt, courtesy of the graphic design wizards at Flight of Yesterdays!

This shirt is available at the $50 “Rainbow in the Dark” support level, which includes a personal phone call from Dan & Corbett, a “like pack” with music, stickers, & desktop wallpaper, the EXCLUSIVE ‘Life Is Excellent’ ringtone composed by Craig Billmeier, the ‘Life Is Excellent’ bumper sticker… PLUS an appearance as an extra in the ‘Life Is Excellent’ music video.

And of course, you’re welcome to contribute more than $50, and get even more fabulous thank-you gifts. Go check out our IndieGoGo site here: http://www.indiegogo.com/lifeisexcellentvideo

Ladies and gentlemen, time weighs heavy upon us. In only three weeks we will conclude our IndieGoGo campaign. We’re not quite to the finish line yet, but we want to thank all of you who’ve contributed already. We truly appreciate the support from you, our friends and fans. If we do not make our goal, we will still use the monies raised to make the best video we possibly can… but filming would surely be delayed a bit. It would mean having to regroup and reconsider our options in making the video for this song with less $.

Show your friends our video, repost and help us spread Ebola to the eyes and ears of everyone you know! Watch our hilarious donation pitch video below! And thank you for all of your help!

NEW RECORDING UPDATE!

Things are coming along on recording for about 5 or 6 upcoming EPs, 7″s and other records! 11 songs are close to being done… only 25 to go! Keep your butts peeled! We are so happy with the new songs. No joke! They rule! Of course, to be fair, of those 36 tunes, 13 are covers for an LP we are making called “Theft“. It contains some of our favorite songs by other people including this song… here is our unmixed, unmastered and unreleased version of Woody Guthrie’s “All You Fascists”, with some updated modern lyrics. We released it on YouTube a week or so back in solidarity with and in honor of the #OccupyWallStreet movement. Just seemed a little to perfect to not let people hear it, what with all of the risin’ up! We return in late November to the recently located Dutch Oven under the masterful engineering hand of occasional MacNuggit second guitarist, Craigums aka 2008 World Air Guitar Champion and member of tons of your favorite bands, past and present. It’s on!

For up to the minute Bobby Joe Ebola info: http://www.facebook.com/bobbyjoeebola

Yo, Joe! Bobby Joe, that is. As in, Bobby Joe Ebola and the Children MacNuggits, the band whose songs will form the lead lining in the doomsday bunker of your little heart.

Each tune you memorize, each lyric you tag on a cop car, inoculates you from the thick crackling cloud of boredom, whose name is Death. Winter is over, friends and fans: Let us bid welcome to Nuclear Spring! People are freaking out about 2012, though we seem to recall a bit of freaking out in 1999 as well. With so much effed-up doom in the air, we could really use the comfort of some ancient wisdom, y’know?

In our research of apocalyptic doom prophecies through the ages, however, we have found only scattered mentions of our band. Very disappointing. The Moche of Peru took the message to heart, at least, and some of the Sumerians were down with our program. But either mistranslation or cranky revisionism has distorted our message in most of the great texts throughout time. Well, if we ever get our time machine running again, we’ll be sure to revisit all the hippy fortune-tellers of the ancient world and rock ‘em while they read llama entrails. I think that’s what Sam Cooke did. He should have, anyway. That man’s voice was a Bible unto itself…

Oh jeez, this doesn’t make any sense…Well, can you blame us? Since we got back from our U.S. Tour in December, we’ve been in nonstop motion, like twin hummingbirds of rock’n’roll, pausing only long enough to sip sweet coffee nectar from the nearest gas station. So much is going on in the merry olde land of Ebola, it’s been a while since we’ve given you all an update. So here we are again.

We’ve got upcoming shows in the Bay Area and beyond, a summer U.S. tour, music videos all through the summer, new releases coming up, and so much more! If you just want show information, scroll down to the bottom of this message, or visit our calendar.

First, however, a little recap of what we’ve been up to this year:

January saw the release of Wizard Hello, the debut comedy album from our good buddy, comedian Alex Koll. We proudly made a cameo on two songs, and played the record release show at San Francisco’s Punchline comedy club. Later in the month, AMP Magazine premiered illustrator Don Reniff’s Life is Excellent, a webcomic inspired by the eponymous song. We gotta say, it was pretty darn cool to see ourselves as Frank Frazetta-style nerd-barians.

February we played shows every weekend, including a weeklong California tour with The Frustrators, the long-dormant East Bay punk juggernaut featuring Mike Dirnt from Green Day. Having emerged from the 90s before them, we were there in the Punk Rock Cryogenics lab with a pot of coffee and a decade of newspapers for them (“What the hell’s a ‘Governator’, anyway?”). We rode the rock’n’rollercoaster with them all the way to Los Angeles and back. Somewhere in there we filmed some awesome music videos (more about those in a bit!).

March was aptly named…We toiled like gnomish salt miners, with more music video preparations and shoots, local shows, and all the little band-related tasks we refer to as “The Sausage Factory”. With patience and a little help from our talented friends – OK, a lot of help – we laid the groundwork for a very exciting year for everyone in the Ebolaverse.

Part of the excitement (and why we’ve been so busy) is that we’ve been attempting something pretty ambitious. We told you our plan over the winter: we want to make a video for each of the 13 songs on our album, F. Well, we’re pleased to announce that we have reached the halfway mark; six videos are in some phase or another of post-production! On a shoestring budget, with plenty of duct tape and open-minded volunteers, we have done some pretty impossible things, and we are incredibly grateful to our community for being part of our fever-dreams. We’re lucky to have such talented friends, including directors Jamie Dewolf, Melissa Dale Neal, Anthony Marchitiello, Petr Sorfa, Jon Carling, Joe Demaree, and others. Over the next couple of months look for us filling up your internet tubes with music videos for “Poly”, “Real Cool”, “Time is Crawling”, “Pac Man & Pop Tarts”, “Lake of Flies”, and more! Very soon production will begin on fan favorites, “Life Is Excellent“, “Sandwiches & Ammunition” and others. These will bring another bevy of talented filmmakers to the project!

But it’s a long way from ‘gonna’ to ‘did’, and we want to get across the finish line this year, so we can move on to other fun projects we have ready to go. We’ll be unveiling a Kickstarter campaign very soon to help us raise funds to finish our ‘video album’ project, with sweet incentives and prizes for helping out. However, if you simply can’t wait to help underwrite our Quixotic art terrorism, you can click here any time to donate.

You folks that come to our shows, buy our crazy merch, listen to us online, and offer support of all sorts, we really appreciate you. And we want to keep giving back to you, who keep us going. Check out some of our latest additions to the MacNuggit online world: We’ve started a Tumblr presence, where followers can see and hear tidbits from the past and present that aren’t available anywhere else. If you’ve ever wanted Bobby Joe Ebola to drunk-dial you, check there while we’re on tour… Also, we’ve discovered a treasure trove of old live recordings, radio appearances and more, and have put some of them on our Bandcamp site. We’ll add more occasionally, whenever we feel like it!

UPCOMING SHOWS

For our California “nuggalos” (oh jeez, is this gonna become a ‘thing’?), we’ve got some really fun shows coming up in April and May, and most of them are benefit shows for some worthy cause or another, and some of them will partially be benefits to help get us out on ‘The Road’ this summer. THE FRUSTRATORSBOBBY JOE EBOLA AND THE CHILDREN MACNUGGITS… Two names which live in infamy in the anals – ahem, annals, of East Bay music history. Both reborn after 8 years of cryogenic hibernation. Both with new releases; Bobby Joe Ebola, with their new album, “F“, and The Frustrators, with their “Griller EP“.

In February 2011, both bands will rub the carbonite from their eyes and roar down the endless road on a week of tour all over California. And of course, The Frustrators (Art, Terry, Jason, Stanley the Chicken and that other guy with a day job playing bass in Green Day) will bring their self-deprecating goofball punk rock to a world that’s waited long enough, dammit!

This is so awesome! When we recorded our new album, “F”, we asked our good and hilarious buddy, Alex Koll, to do a guest spot. He obliged and totally asked us to return the favor and do some stuff on his album! Holy spit, we are truly excited. The album is out on Rooftop Comedy and available thru iTunes on 1/11/11!!! But don’t wait until then, you can pre-order it right the hell now by visiting those sites! Just follow the links we’ve so dutifully provided!

Alex has also invited us, and we are fucking totally giddy about this, to play his album release party at the mucho renowned Punchline in San Francisco! Buy your tickets NOW, right here! It is truly an honor to be on our friend’s new album and to join in the celebration of it’s birth into this cold world! Also performing are the wonderful comedians Sean Keane and Emily Heller! And we won’t be the only music guys on the bill! Also playing will be the awesome DJ Real!

Come out to the Punchline on 1/17/10 and get your copy of “Wizard Hello” featuring us MacNuggits yodelin’ and barkin’ on the tracks, “Dad, Dad, Dad” and “Go To Work”!!

Goodness gracious, it’s getting late in the year. Time flies when you’re whipping up bizarre musical buckyballs and singing them to anyone who’ll listen. Time flies no matter what you’re doing, though, so we’ve been working like Santa’s political prisoners in our secret Gulag of Fun. We here at Bobby Joe Ebola and the Children MacNuggits know that time is short. We could all be hit by comets before you finish reading this, so there’s not a moment to waste.

If it’s been a while since you’ve checked in, boy oh boy have we had an eventful year, and it shows no sign of slowing down. We’ll give you a little roundup of our 2010 adventures, and a glimpse of things to come. New releases, tours, music videos, special shows, and—OK, let’s take a breath. One thing at a time…

This fall, of course, we released our first album in a decade, F. We’ll leave the reviews to the reviewers (and to you, O Faithful Listener), but we couldn’t be happier with the result, and with the response from old friends and new. If you haven’t bought a copy yet, you can get it at one of our shows, or you can go online RIGHT NOW and get a copy at Silver Sprocket Bicycle Club, the label who’s been showing us around since we awoke from our decade-long cryogenic nap.

While we were waiting for our album to hatch, we made our first music video ever: Yes, “Freaky Baby”, our summer booty anthem, a ridiculously fun collaboration with our friends at Bent Lens Productions, the Bay Area Derailleurs bike dance troupe, Oakland Pyrate Punx, Mystic Knights of the Cobra, and thousands of online viewers on Youtube, Funny or Die and elsewhere. It made for some slightly awkward conversation with Grandma at Thanksgiving dinner, but totally worth it. “Freaky Baby”, of course, grew up to be its own digital-only EP (available on iTunes and Amazon), featuring badass cover art by legendary local artist Janelle Hessig. Remixes and vinyl are in the works, so stay tuned for more on that.

We had so much fun making that video, we’ve decided to make more. A bunch more. Our goal is to make a video for each song on our new album. Pretty ambitious, we know. But we’ve always been too big for our britches, and since we took our britches off, we’ve been much more comfortable. Keep an eye out over the next few weeks as videos for “Poly” and “Pac Man & Pop Tarts” wrap up post-production. Stay tuned as well for updates and casting calls for other videos over the next couple of months, and you might wind up on camera with us! Yes, we’ll be wearing pants. The britches thing was just a figure of speech, OK?

We’re very pleased to announce that our old pals at Evil Twin Booking have taken us under their wing. We are honored and excited to be included in this family of shit-starters, culture jammers and – dare we say it? – revolutionaries. If you’re looking to book us for college gigs, festivals, conferences, and the like, go ahead and contact Evil Twin at: info (at) eviltwinbooking (dot) com For most other kinds of shows, you can still contact us directly. Talk to Dan at  dan (at) bobbyjoeebola (dot) com!

I told you we’ve been busy. Many of you know we hit the road this October for a two-week adventure through the South, culminating in Gainesville for The Fest 9. This was our first time back to “the region” since 1999, and we were flattered and overwhelmed at the response we got. Thanks to everyone who came to see us play, and we promise we won’t wait so long next time to come back through. We had an absolute blast, and we’re excited for the next tour, which is right around the corner.

If you live in the Midwest or Northeast, look for us in December as we race to the East Coast on a three-week quest for someplace warm! Check below for dates and other information. First, we’re doing a four-date tour with our LA pals, Tartar Control. From LA, we’ll fly to Minneapolis for a week on the road with Duluth’s own Hard Feelings. After that, we’ll head due east to Minneapolis, stopping only long enough to scrape the snotsicles from our noses, culminating in Boston, MA on Dec. 20.

Trust us, after all of this we will rest… and grow beards. Keep your eyes peeled for all of the many upcoming music videos and we are sure the new year will bring some new MacNuggit albums. We have plans for about four right now. You think we’re joking. But remember, one of our oldest mantras: Just because we’re funny, doesn’t mean we’re joking. With that, we hope your holidays bring you many bags of cat vomit or whatever it is you asked Satan for… um, Santa. Yeah, tour dates below:

Maybe I’m dating myself a little (“Take what you can get!” Hardee har har. Thanks, subconscious.), but I felt very inspired by the end of “Revenge of the Nerds” (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BwyKrcCW_Dw). The big epic inspirational speech and triumphant weird variety show (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NMgG6KyhGXQ&feature=related) that baffled and disarmed the jock-loving (or fearing) masses; sure, it was a formula movie, but for a moment of my youth it seemed like imagination and social awkwardness could win over brawn, privilege and cosmetic products.

Despite how often the “real world” stomps on that sense of triumph, it sure felt that way at our September 24 album release party at the Uptown Nightclub. It was flattering enough that so many people came to cheer us on and check out our weird little musical experiments. We worked hard on our new album, “F“, and the many reviews thus far have given us a little confirmation that maybe it’s not all in our heads (Ground Control Magazine Review & FensePost Review to link a few!). Maybe we really did make a badass album with our friends, and maybe the world is ready for it.

And it was all the more satisfying that our friends were there. We felt like Dorothy waking up in Kansas, if Kansas were full of insane performance-art auteurs. Sweet NothingMystic Knights of the Cobra, and Fleshies were kind enough to help us celebrate, and gave us some tough acts to follow. Alex Koll, our emcee, kept the audience stunned with laughter, like frogs in a hi-beam. I wonder how many gallons of booze came out of people’s noses that night. The Bay Area Derailleurs, a kindhearted gang of badass bike dancers, worked their asses off to be part of our crew and join us on stage for our closing rap anthem, “Freaky Baby” (they’re also in the video for that song, which will be out very soon!). It was inspiring to see our friends pushing the limits of their various art forms, and flattering that they agreed to be part of our show.

You there, sitting at your computer, give these amazing people a hand for all their hard work and artistry. Right now. No, not an emoticon. Clap, with your hands. Remember that stuff? These folks deserve it.

It was awesome to see so many familiar faces in the audience, a sea of smiles from people who believed in us when we sometimes had trouble believing in ourselves. A friend of ours said it was like being back at Geekfest (a series of festivals we used to organize in the 90s, at least partially inspired by “Revenge of the Nerds”). Yes, it was the same feeling of belonging and freedom, but it didn’t seem nostalgic to us. Back then, we felt like time travelers; stuck in the wrong moment of history. The Uptown show felt like we had finally adjusted our time machine and made it to the right show, in the right year; it confirmed for us how far we’ve all come, and we want to thank you for coming to see the show, and supporting us all these years. What is the voice without the ear, after all?

Of course, we realize not everyone could make that show. And that’s why we elected to put together two album release parties, one for each side of the bay. The next one is coming up October 8 at Thee Parkside in San Francisco (1600 17th st). Joining us on stage will be a whole different crew of beloved friends and family: Emily’s Army; a group of young upstarts holding down the East Bay sound while taking it in their own direction. The Secretions; longtime friends who will seriously rock your faces off and get you back in the pit and, of course, The Angel and Robot Show; featuring our pals and label mates,  Angel Nova and AR-7 from The Phenomenauts!

The show is all ages, $8 and starts at 8pm, so bring the kids! It’d be smart to get advance tickets, which you can do at: https://holdmyticket.com/mini/mini.php?id=16237. And keep in mind that our new album, “F“, is available in CD and LP, and you need like 10 copies for all your friends. The vinyl is available in three colors: translucent red, translucent blue, and something we like to call “kidney punch”. Each LP comes with a code for digital download as well.  Mmm-hmm! See you at the show. We will also have copies of the “Freaky Baby EP” Fun Pack featuring a poster (with art by Janelle Hessig!), sticker, download card of the EP and more!

      Hogs and geeses,

      Dan
